Penang is an island off peninsular Malaysia and Georgetown is the capital. The sight seeing places within town are within walking distance if you plan your route. Taxis are very expensive as they do not charge by meter but according to their arbitary rate.

If you decide to visit Kek Lok Si Temple, take a bus from Komtar bus terminal, the fare is RM 2. Bus stops at the foot of the hill, walk is about 500 metres to reach the Temple.
Taxi fare from airport to Georgetown is RM 50.
In lieu of Gurney Drive – a famous tourist eating place – I was recommended by the hotel manager to go to Short Street that is a short distance from Komtar. Have no regrets, price is fair and quality is good.
